FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS



WHAT ARE YOU DOING? AND WHY?
I’m baking everyday for 3 months to fundraise US$5000 (that's AU$6000). Because US$5000 will be enough to build a water well that will give 250 people = 50 families = 1 commnity safe drinking water for the next 20 years. I'm doing this because I got registered and suddenly my nights have freed up, I thought I'd build a well in the meantime... and I think it's a bargain price to pay for 250 happy & healthy people. Also, I'm having fun... (so far!)


IS IT REALLY YOUR BIRTHDAY TODAY?
No, my real birthday is not until November, but I couldn't wait till then to start raising money. It is my birthday wish this year to get a water well built in a developing country. So I'm celebrating everyday by bringing a birthday cake to work in exchange for donations towards my campaign.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I DONATE?
It's up to you. I’ve asked my friends to give me $27 this year for my 27th birthday instead of gifts I don’t need (if they’re lucky they get cake scraps). So, I’m asking you for a minimum $2.70 donation for each piece of cake I bake.


IS IT TAX DEDUCTIBLE?
Unfortunately no. As Charity:Water is an American organisation, donations made are only tax deductible in the US and UK where they are set up. I didn't know there were similar well building organisations in Australia before I committed myself to charity:water. I hope you will still consider helping out! 

WHAT IS A CUSTOM MADE CAKE?
I’m also taking cake orders for a $50 donation towards my campaign, it can be any flavor you fancy! Just let me know what you’d like in your cake and I’ll try my best to make it happen! Please give me at least 3 days advance notice, preferably over a weekend (I still have to work and sleep). Sorry, I've officially burnt out from baking everyday :( thus, I've decided not to take on anymore cake orders from what I already have now until the end of the campaign.


CAN YOU MAKE VEGAN CAKES?
Yep – vegan, low fat, extra fat, gluten-free, surprise, green and even savoury cakes! Anything is possible, anything is possible.
 
WILL THERE BE SAVOURY GOODIES?
I’ve introduced SAVOURY WEDNESDAY to attract cake haters. When I can, there will still be the usual CAKE!


HOW DO I MAKE A DONATION?
Make a donation any time until 30th September 2010
Pay-as-you-eat into the donation box next to the birthday cake or on my desk.
Alternatively, visit http://www.mycharitywater.org/SugarForWater and donate using the big blue button next to the cake photo (preferred method).


WHERE DOES MY DONATION GO?
It does not go to me, I am donating all baking related expenses and my time towards this campaign. Remember you're not just having CAKE!...100% of the money you donate will help towards


1. Making my birthday wish come true
2. Giving safe drinking water to people
3. Offsetting the guilt on sugar consumption knowing you are making a difference!


Now, how is that for value?!
So please keep craving cake and help me help the seriously thirsty!


If you'd like to see the well on Google Earth once it's built, leave a message and I'll let you know the GPS coordinates when I receive notification from Charity:Water. Hopefully, the well will get built within 12-18 months.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I CAN DO TO HELP?
YES! I realised AU$6000 is an ambitious goal for a first timer, but I still think it's achievable with everyone's support. If you'd like to sponsor me for ingredients used in baking to fundraise for this campaign - I'd be so grateful. If you know or have special connections with suppliers or bakeries, I would accept any help I can get!
